šŸ”„ An Unmanageable Life

“That our lives had become unmanageable”

What does this second part of step one mean?

It means my problems really began when I I put down the drink…

In a state of abstinence from alcohol I become restless, irritable and discontent…

“We were having trouble with personal relationships, we couldn’t control our emotional natures, we were a prey to misery and depression, we couldn’t make a living, we had a feeling of uselessness, we were full of fear, we were unhappy, we couldn’t seem to be of real help to other people” – The Big Book P52

These are some of the bedevilments an alcoholic experiences in a state of abstinence from his so called solution to life – alcohol.

An extremely dysfunctional way of living indeed…

An unmanageable life…

How are we to overcome this hopeless situation?…

“When we saw others solve their problems by a simple reliance upon the Spirit of the Universe, we had to stop doubting the power of God. Our ideas did not work. But the God idea did”.
